The main speaker of the seminar is Dr Paul Higgs from University College London. Paul Higgs is Reader in Medical Sociology at UCL. He has researched and published in the fields of Medical Sociology, Social Policy and Social Gerontology. Paul Higgs (with Chris Gilleard) is the co-author of 'Cultures of Ageing: Self, Citizen and the Body' (Prentice Hall, 2000) and 'Contexts of Ageing: Class, Community and Cohort' (Polity, 2005). His current research interests include consumption and later life; qualitative analysis of early retirement decisions; generations, cohorts and ageing; quality of life in early old age; ageing bodies and anti-ageing techniques.
